U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump promised to create a federal task force to combat anti-Christian discrimination on July 26 during a speech at the Turning Point Action Believers Summit in West Palm Beach.
“I will create a new federal task force to combat anti-Christian bias. Its mission will be to investigate all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and persecution of Christians in the United States.”Trump said.
Trump also criticized U.S. presidential candidate and vice president Kamala Harris for accusing judicial nominees of their membership in the Knights of Columbus (a charitable movement of Catholic men) as senators, as if their Catholic faith deprived them of the right to serve on a federal court.
“I don’t know how a Catholic can vote for Democrats because they persecute Catholics almost as much as they persecute me.”Trump said.
This is not the first time Trump has promised to create a task force to combat the persecution of Christians. In 2023, at one of his rallies, Trump promised “end the war with Christians” and accused the Biden administration of tolerating the persecution of Christians. He also stated that “The government is being used as a weapon against religion like never before”.
Recall that in a report published in August 2023, the House Judiciary Committee accused the FBI of calling traditional Catholics (i.e. Catholics who retained the Latin Mass) “potential domestic terrorists”.
