The Russian-Speaking Residents’ Society of Finland has sent a complaint to the European Commission and a petition to the European Parliament over the government’s closure of the border with Russia, the organization’s Telegram channel reported on July 28.
The publication notes that the Finnish government has not yet announced plans to open the border with Russia. “We sent a complaint to the European Commission about Finland’s violation of European law and received a reply that all the facts will be taken into account. We also sent a petition to the European Parliament; it is still being moderated by a special committee.”the message says.
It should be recalled that the Society of Russian-Speaking Residents of Finland announced on April 30 that it would file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights over the closure of checkpoints on the border with Russia.
Vehicle checkpoints on Finland’s eastern border were closed in November 2023 under the pretext of combating the uncontrolled flow of refugees from third countries. In April 2023, the country officially joined NATO.
