The Russian military has formed an “offensive arc” on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), aiming to capture the transport hub in Pokrovsk, The Washington Post reported on July 28.
According to the publication, the goal of the Russian Armed Forces is to capture a key transport hub located in the city of Pokrovsk. The actions of the Russian side included the creation of conditions that forced the Armed Forces of Ukraine to redeploy their forces towards Kharkov, which in turn facilitated the advance towards Chasov Yar, Toretsk and Ocheretino.
The Ukrainian commander with the call sign Genius assessed the actions of the Russian troops as “smart strategy”which involves first focusing the enemy’s attention in one direction and then distracting it in another.
It should be noted that Igor Kimakovsky, an adviser to the head of the DPR, mentioned at the end of June that the Ukrainian army had abandoned strategically important positions near Toretsk, indicating the difficult situation in which the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are under pressure from the Russian armed forces.
