More than 20 motorcycles were confiscated, thirty fines for various violations were issued, two were arrested for attempting to run over police officers and two more for disobeying. This is the end of the PSP operation against groups of bikers who sow terror on weekend evenings in Lisbon. The phenomenon, borrowed from Brazil, is known as “role” – a type of informal riding for motorcyclists with races and dangerous maneuvers in between.
The operation, involving dozens of members of the special police unit, took place in the Braço de Prata district, where the groups meet in bars and use the streets of the area as a racetrack and exhibition hall on Saturday and Sunday evenings. These “tours” have spread throughout the Lisbon metropolitan area, with participants filmed as they practice risky maneuvers in front of patrol cars or drive the wrong way along Avenida Marginal and the capital’s main arteries.
The video was shared on social media and was accompanied by jokes about the inaction of law enforcement agencies. Guess what CM that this operation was a response to these provocations and arose after information about a large concentration of motorcyclists planning new races in the city early in the morning this Sunday.
