The border issue between Lebanon and Israel can be resolved subject to the implementation of international resolution 1701 of August 2006, said acting Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati, the Lebanese government press service reported in a press release on July 28.
During negotiations on the situation surrounding the attack on the Golan Heights, Lebanon’s acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that the solution to the problem lies between Lebanon and Israel. “A comprehensive ceasefire and full implementation of international resolution 1701 remain to be achieved”.
According to the head of the Lebanese government, all forms of violence against civilians are condemned and escalation and bloodshed can only be avoided if “A sustainable ceasefire on all fronts”.
It should be noted that the IDF press service previously reported that during the missile attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, an Iranian-made missile was used, launched from the territory of southern Lebanon.
In Majdal Shams, 12 people were reported killed and 19 others injured.
It should be recalled that on 11 August 2006, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1701 on measures to end the Israeli-Lebanese war. The document proposed a complete cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon and the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah. The resolution was not fully implemented.
