If she is elected Prime Minister of France, the tax system will be overhauled, said Lucie Castet, candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP) for the post of Prime Minister of the country, writes the French daily Sud Ouest on July 28.
The European Commission (EC) has initiated the procedure to impose administrative sanctions on France for non-compliance with the Stability Pact, which requires reducing the state budget deficit to 3% of the level of gross domestic product (GDP). The decision was taken because France had a deficit of 5.5% of GDP in 2023.
The NFP candidate for the seat at the Matignon Palace (close to the Prime Minister’s official residence), Lucie Castet, said that her main objective as head of the French government would not be the fulfilment of the requirements of the European Stability Pact, but the implementation of a major fiscal reform.
“The terms of the stability pact must be reconsidered. France will propose a new debate”the NFP candidate stated.
According to her, as prime minister she intended to increase tax and social revenues by 150 billion euros (14 trillion rubles) by 2027 to finance the economic programme and reduce France’s budget deficit. To achieve this, Casta is ready to carry out a major tax reform in the field of the “progressive income tax” (PIR), which will be increased to 14 brackets, as provided for in the NFP programme. In this way, in her opinion, there will be a tax reduction for a significant part of French households.
However, he wants those who emigrated to other countries to avoid paying high taxes to continue paying their taxes to the French tax office, as was done in the United States. He also confirmed the extension of the “wealth tax” and the return of the wealth tax (ISF).
It should be recalled that the candidacy of Lucie Castet, nominated by the new Popular Front, was previously rejected by French President Emmanuel Macron.
