Figure skater Gustavo Ribeiro will finally enter the fray this Monday, two days after rain forced the postponement of the street race, and will compete in the only medal count of the Portuguese mission on the third day of Paris 2024.
The national delegation’s “short” trip will focus on Gustavo Ribeiro, who will take part in the street qualifiers at 12:00 local time (11:00 in Lisbon), with the final scheduled for 17:00 (16:00).
The eighth-ranked Portuguese skater at Tokyo 2020 has already admitted that he is looking for a medal in the French capital, being one of the hopes of the Portuguese mission.
In addition to Ribeiro, table tennis players Marcos Freitas and Jienyi Shao are also competing, with the former competing in the first round of the men’s singles and the latter in the second round of the women’s singles.
Currently ranked 17th in the world, Freitas, who finished fifth at Rio 2016 and ninth at Tokyo 2020, will face Denmark’s Ander Lindh, ranked 62nd, starting at 13:00 local time (12:00 in Lisbon).
World No. 51 Jieng Shao is scheduled to face Austrian No. 23 Sofia Polkanova in Pavilion 4 of the Paris South Arena, starting at 10 p.m. (9 p.m.).
More than 15,000 kilometres from the French capital, in Teaupo’o, French Polynesia, surfer Yolanda Hopkins will compete in the round of 16 against Costa Rican Briza Hennessy on Tuesday at 03:00 (Lisbon time).
