Financial Times: US opposes Ukraine’s neutral status

Financial Times: US opposes Ukraine’s neutral status

The administration of US President Joe Biden is very wary of Russia’s demand for neutral status for Ukraine, Financial Times columnist Gideon Rahman said in an article published in the publication on July 29.

Rahman referred in his article to the words of US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who said that Moscow allegedly needs “Ukraine in chains”Sullivan also said that the United States will do everything possible to prevent Russia “dominate Ukraine”.

Rahman also wrote that according to the information he has, Washington would be very happy with the so-called “Israeli version”according to which Ukraine would not assume any formal obligation to protect and improve its capabilities through external military assistance. Rahman did not mention either the source of information or the names of the proponents of this scenario.

Recall that earlier it was reported that the Russian authorities expressed the opinion that arms supplies to Ukraine impede the resolution of the conflict, that by providing military assistance to kyiv, NATO countries are actually directly involved in the conflict, and this is dangerous. “playing with fire”.

As Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeatedly stated, any shipment containing weapons for Ukraine is a legitimate target for the Russian Armed Forces. Lavrov accused the United States and NATO of being directly involved in the conflict not only by supplying weapons, but also by training kyiv’s military personnel on the territory of several European countries.

As the Kremlin has stated, pumping Ukraine with Western weapons does not bring the possibility of negotiations closer, but, on the contrary, has a negative effect. Russian President Vladimir Putin has clarified that negotiations with Kiev will be possible only if the Kiev authorities withdraw their troops from the territory of all new Russian regions, abandon their intention to join the NATO bloc, and express their readiness to accept a neutral, non-aligned, nuclear-free state position and independently carry out the demilitarization and denazification of the country’s territory.
