The National Telecommunications Authority (Anacom) announced this Monday that it is collaborating with the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), responsible for managing the radio spectrum in France, in overseeing the use of the spectrum during the Paris Olympic Games.
“In total, Anacom is sending a team of six technical specialists to Paris, who are part of the teams monitoring and controlling the spectrum at the Games and who will ensure control of user equipment, measure technical parameters in accordance with the issued licenses, and resolve interference in all radio systems used,” Anacom said in a statement.
The goal is to “ensure the proper functioning of digital mobile networks, satellite communications, telemetry, transmitting microphones, video communications between cameras and technical areas, as well as 5G systems used for various purposes and applications,” he adds.
The regulator “has extensive experience and consolidated knowledge in large-scale event monitoring, as well as specialised technical capabilities that have been widely demonstrated in highly complex operational scenarios.”
It was “the recognition of this capability and the proven evidence that led ANFR to invite Anacom to join the task forces for the supervision of spectrum use at the Paris Olympic Games, in order to guarantee the necessary conditions for the correct use of the spectrum without restrictions and interference in this important competition of great scale and international prestige”, the organization emphasizes.
Anacom has already taken part in several international events, “as was the case recently with the World Youth Day in Lisbon; the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018; the London Olympic Games in 2012 in cooperation with OFCOM of the United Kingdom; and the UEFA European Football Championship in 2004.”
The National Communications Authority will be monitoring the work continuously until the final day of the event, August 11.
