Meanwhile, China, Russia and Iran have already congratulated Maduro. On the other hand, the US, the EU and several Latin American countries have expressed their “concern” and called for “clarity”. For their part, Mexico, Brazil and Chile will wait for the full recount.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on Monday that he plans to sign a decree to call for a process of national dialogue to promote “new consensus” and an “understanding” between the country’s different political forces after being declared the winner of the elections by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Maduro, who has celebrated the partial results that give him the victory with 51% of the votesThis was stated during a speech from the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the Government, where he assured that the conversations will include “all economic, social, cultural and political sectors of the country.”
Opposition candidates recognize the result
Meanwhile, several opposition candidates from Venezuela, including, Benjamin Rausseocandidate of the National Democratic Confederation, the candidate of Arepa Digital, Daniel Ceballos and the candidate for Primero Venezuela, Jose Britohave recognized the results of the CNE and, therefore, the victory of President Nicolás Maduro over the main dissident candidate, Edmundo Gonzalezwho claims victory with almost 70% of the votes.
There were ten candidates running in the Venezuelan elections, although the vote was always framed as a duel between Maduro and González. The other candidates have expressed their opposition to the regime, although they have also shown their rejection of the united opposition platform.
Virtually all the candidates for the Venezuelan elections —except for Gonzalez and the candidate Enrique Marquez— signed to end of June an agreement proposed by the CNE to guarantee the recognition of the election results.
China, Russia and Iran congratulate Maduro
The governments of China, Russia and Iran have already congratulated the Venezuelan leader on his election victory. “I would like to reiterate our willingness to continue our constructive work on the current bilateral and international agenda. Remember that you are always welcome on Russian soil,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating Maduro.
Along the same lines, China has congratulated the South American country for a “successful” election and Maduro for his re-election.
“We congratulate the people and government of Venezuela for the successful holding of the presidential elections in this country, as well as the elected president of the Venezuelan people,” said, for his part, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Naser Kanani, on his X account.

On the other hand, the United States, the European Union and some Latin American states have expressed their “concern” about the recount and have called for “clarity” and for all the electoral records to be published so that the results that give Maduro the victory can be verified.
The White House has announced that it will postpone making decisions on Venezuela, including the possibility of imposing new sanctions, until all the voting records from the election are published. The Joe Biden administration has “serious concerns that the announced results do not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people,” White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said in a telephone press briefing.

The Brazilian government has praised the “peaceful nature” of the elections in Venezuela, but has confirmed that it will wait for the full results to be in before making a decision on Maduro’s eventual victory.
Finally, Chilean President Gabriel Boric has stressed that it is imperative to hand over all the records to both independent international observers and the opposition and “until this is done, we as a country will refrain from recognizing what the National Electoral Council has indicated.”
