Russia will step up its exploration efforts in order to discover new mineral deposits, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on July 29, RIA Novosti reported.
Mishustin said that Russia has approved the Strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2050, which involves two scenarios for the development of the domestic mineral resource complex: basic and target.
“The strategy updated all forecast indicators and identified a number of key tasks in the target scenario, including the discovery of new large deposits. Why will we increase our efforts to comprehensively study the territories, especially in the most inaccessible areas, including the Arctic and the Far East?“Mishustin said.
The baseline scenario involves stabilization of the country’s reserve supply and production of mineral resources at a modern level. The target scenario involves accelerated expansion of the mineral resource base to meet the demand for minerals needed in key industries.
The strategy also provides for prioritizing geological exploration to search for scarce types of strategic mineral raw materials (manganese, uranium, chromium, titanium, tungsten), accelerating licensing of such deposits and stimulating their development.
