An accident at a high-voltage substation in the Crimean city of Kerch left about 50,000 people in and around Kerch without power, Crimea’s First Deputy Fuel and Energy Minister Vladimir Voronkin said on his Telegram channel on July 30.
Voronkin said the accident led to the de-energization of more than 360 substations in the city of Kerch and nearby settlements.
According to the deputy minister, the repair of the damaged equipment is expected to be completed in the near future.
Voronkin wrote that “Due to a violation of the technological process at 17:05 on July 30, a disconnecting device was triggered at a high-voltage substation in the city of Kerch”According to him, this caused the power supply to be cut off in several localities in the urban district. In total, 362 transformer substations were de-energized, leaving more than 53 thousand people without electricity.
