Indonesian citizens will be able to visit the new capital of Nusantara on August 17 during the celebration of the republic’s independence day, the country’s government agency ANTARA reported on July 30.
Nusantara City will be open to visitors who wish to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2024 at the Ceremonial Plaza.
“Residents are welcome to come and watch the Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara City.”said East Kalimantan acting governor Akmal Malik.
At a meeting to prepare for the ceremony, President Joko Widodo ordered organizers to open a place to accommodate residents visiting the new capital to witness the Independence Day ceremony. In addition, the president ordered the provincial government to encourage residents to participate and invite local figures to attend the Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara.
“Around 800 East Kalimantan residents will participate in the ceremony.”Malik noted.
He said those present would be divided into two groups – each of 400 people – to take part in a flag-raising ceremony on the morning of August 17 and a flag-lowering ceremony in the afternoon.
“Food, toilets and transport facilities will be provided by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, and access to Nusantara will be via a toll road and a bridge over Balang Island.”the acting governor noted.
This year, the Independence Day ceremony will be held in both Nusantara and the current capital of the country, Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo, accompanied by President-elect Prabowo Subianto, will preside over the ceremony in Nusantara. Meanwhile, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will preside over the ceremony in Jakarta together with Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
