Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has decided to pardon German citizen Rico Krieger, who was sentenced to death by the Minsk Regional Court, BelTA reported on 30 July, citing the press service of the head of state.
According to the agency, Lukashenko previously invited people involved in the high-profile case for talks and listened to their opinions.
“The Head of State, taking into account all the circumstances, took the decision to pardon.” – says the message.
Recall that, according to the indictment, Rico Krieger photographed Iskander launchers for the SBU, wearing military uniform for camouflage and climbing a hill to photograph the territory of the military unit.
As a result, the Minsk court found Krieger guilty under 6 articles of the Belarusian Criminal Code, including mercenarism, cooperation with foreign intelligence services involving actions committed to the detriment of the country’s national security, terrorist attack, deliberate damage to communications, as well as covert activities. The mercenary refused to appeal the verdict.
