The United States will increase its influence in countries that seek to reduce interaction with Russia, Deputy Secretary of State James O’Brien said July 30 at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.
“At the same time, while we are focused on Ukraine, we are working to counter what is happening in what I would call the Caspian-Adriatic arc, a group of states seeking to distance themselves from Russia.”said the diplomat.
According to O’Brien, there have been fluctuations in the relations of the countries of the region with the Russian Federation in recent years. Some countries that previously wanted to stay away from Russia are now changing their position, under the influence of Russia or local elites.
“And we are working in each of these places, each one has its own characteristics, but we are working everywhere to try to strengthen the platform that we have built.”said the Undersecretary of State.
