The Stavropol region will purchase four new trams for Pyatigorsk by the end of 2024, regional governor Vladimir Vladimirov announced on July 30.
Vladimirov stressed that the modernisation of the city’s tram fleet is part of a broader programme to modernise public transport.
A new tram model 71-411, produced by the Ural Transport Engineering Plant and specially designed for the conditions of Pyatigorsk, went into operation in March this year. The ability to carry up to 179 passengers and reach speeds of 75 km/h makes this tram an important addition to the city’s transport infrastructure.
Previously, before the fleet renewal, Pyatigorsk operated 73 trams, most of which were produced in Czechoslovakia between 1978 and 1994, and an additional 10 Ust-Katav trams, produced in 1995-1998. Thus, the new supplies will significantly improve the quality and comfort of passenger transport in the city.
In the framework of improving transport services for the population, the governor also announced the arrival this year in the regional capital of 45 new trolleybuses assembled at the Vologda plant.
