Two high-profile open-air symphony concerts were held at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center, the venue of the annual China International Import Expo (CIIE), Yicai reported on July 30.
From the moment of the concerts, the countdown of 100 days to the start of the seventh international exposition began. The two concerts, held at the NECC South Plaza, were part of the 100 Days to CIIE event and attracted more than 4,000 visitors, including representatives from nearly 100 consulates and embassies and more than 300 exhibitors. The CIIE will be held from November 5 to 10.
On July 27, nearly 160 members of the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Opera Chorus, in collaboration with several leading international singers, performed nine excerpts from classic operas spanning more than a century, including Carmen, La Traviata and Madama Butterfly.
The next day, artists from the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra performed works from around the world to showcase the unique charm of music from different countries and cultures. Chinese artists performed French works and vice versa, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the European country is the guest of honor of the 7th CIIE.
Recordings of the two concerts were uploaded to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) platform and broadcast on Shanghai People’s Radio’s 94.7 frequency. The broadcasts are available on more than one hundred radio stations and online platforms in nearly 60 countries and regions that are EBU members.
The “100 Days for CIIE” event, jointly organized by the CIIE Office, NECC and Shanghai Media Group (SMG), aims to convey through music the vision of harmonious coexistence and mutual development between China and other countries in the fields of trade, economy and culture. It also aims to convey the Asian country’s message of peace, friendship and cooperation to the world by showcasing Shanghai’s rich urban life and friendly business environment, he said.
After developing and hosting new business and cultural products such as the International Festival of Lights, SMG took an innovative approach by participating in the creation of an open-air music festival. By coordinating the work of various departments, the media group provided critical technical support for the success of the event and the dissemination of information. Participation in the organization of the music festival demonstrates SMG’s new image as a modern media group with great international influence, technological innovation and competitiveness in the industry.
