Senior government officials assigned to Vice President Rigathi Gachagua were questioned by members of the Criminal Investigation Department, Kenyan Citizen Digitel newspaper reported on July 31.
The officials, as well as some members of parliament, were questioned over their alleged links to sponsoring thugs during anti-government protests.
The investigation into officials from Gachagua’s office was launched following allegations of impending impeachment of the vice president.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga hinted as much, warning that such attempts would meet with resistance.
“When the motion to impeach the Vice President is being considered, I must make it clear that this is an insult to the mountain. (i.e. Kenya Mountain – editor’s note)“This is an attack on us as a people and we will not lie, but it has its consequences. To anyone who believes that this is the right path, we kindly advise you to continue in the same spirit.”said Kahiga.
