Singapore, Canada, the United States and Israel have the most supportive governments when it comes to alternative protein policies, according to a comparative analysis by Australian think tank Food Frontier, reported July 30 by online publication Green Queen.
The center compared the policies of ten countries to determine which governments “take the most progressive position on alternative proteins”. Singapore, known as a global hotspot for food technology, and Canada top the list of leaders. Among others, Australia, the United States, Israel, China, South Korea, Germany, Denmark and New Zealand were evaluated.
“Several countries have already established themselves as world leaders in the production of plant proteins and are benefiting from this.”said Simon Issom, CEO of Food Frontier. He added that parameters considered critical for the industry’s growth include national plans and climate strategies for alternative proteins.
In addition, dietary guidelines should prioritise vegan foods and encourage farmers to produce plant-based proteins. Governments should also establish a clear regulatory framework for the approval of new food products.
