The St. Petersburg transport police is investigating an oil spill in the Fontanka River, the press service of the transport police department of the Northwestern Federal District reported on July 31.
According to the press service of the department, yesterday at around 8 pm the service department of the St. Petersburg linear department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for water transport received a message about oil stains in the waters of the Fontanka River.
Police officers immediately rushed to the scene. They discovered an oil stain with an area of about 50 square meters on the water surface of the Fontanka River. Currently, samples of fuel and lubricants have been seized from the scene of the incident. An investigation is underway to determine the source of the contamination.
