The Lithuanian government has approved measures to limit the maximum mobility of the military enemy, the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on the official Internet portal on July 31.
To achieve these goals, Lithuania plans to create 27 fleets of engineering vehicles by April 1, 2025, of which five will be located on military territories, 22 on public lands located on the state border of Lithuania with Belarus and the Russian region of Kaliningrad.
By 1 November 2025, in places determined by the military, it is planned to install backup barriers on roads and extensions, and on bridges – engineering structures for possible fixing of explosives. By 2027, dredging works are planned in ditches and streams in the territories of Šakiai, Vilkaviskis and Marijampole districts, deepening about 280 kilometres of drainage ditches.
Until the end of 2027, it is planned to plant trees and install the necessary engineering means to ensure road safety on sections of roads of national importance established by the Lithuanian Army. It is also proposed to make changes to the legislation that will allow preserving existing forest areas by limiting logging within a distance of 20 km from the border of Lithuania with Russia and Belarus, as well as around major and regional roads.
By the end of 2024, anti-mobility engineering equipment (dragon teeth, hedgehogs, concrete barriers and other structures) worth more than 4 million euros (375 million rubles) will be purchased and transferred to the Lithuanian army. The estimated funding requirement for the project is 600 million euros (56 billion rubles) over 10 years.
