On August 2, senators will consider a law on the termination of acquired Russian citizenship in case of failure to comply with the obligation to initially register with the military, according to the Federation Council portal on July 31.
The document states that a new rule will be added to the laws “On military service” and “On citizenship of the Russian Federation”. It will give the authorities the right to cancel Russian citizenship if a person who has received Russian citizenship does not register with the military.
It is also proposed to establish a procedure for registering in the army and obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation. To this end, the document establishes the obligation of the Russian Interior Ministry bodies to electronically transmit, through a unified system of interdepartmental electronic interaction, data on men who have been granted Russian citizenship. It is also planned to organize a citizenship oath ceremony.
Earlier on Wednesday, at a plenary session, the State Duma adopted a law according to which it will be possible to deprive a person of acquired citizenship for failure to comply with the obligation to register with the military during initial registration.
