A major fire in the Piazzale Clodio area of Rome, Italy, forced the evacuation of several buildings and the closure of roads on Wednesday. The area where state broadcaster RAI is headquartered on Via Teulad was also affected, according to Italian media. The alert was issued at around 2pm local time (1pm in Portugal).
The fire required large-scale intervention by firefighters and police. There are currently no reports of casualties.
Rome prosecutors have opened an investigation to establish the cause of the fire. The affected area has been sealed off so that evidence and witness statements can be collected. The fire has caused disruption to transport, including the rerouting of some bus routes that pass through the affected area.
