The body of Fouad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander, was found in the rubble in southern Beirut, Lebanon, on Wednesday after an attack carried out by Israel in retaliation for the deaths of 12 children and young people who fell victim to a rocket in the mountains, Reuters reported.
Fuad Shukr was appointed as an adviser to Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the Islamic group’s military commander. According to Israel, Shukr was one of those responsible for the rocket attack that culminated in the deaths of 12 people aged between 10 and 16 on a soccer field in the Golan Heights over the weekend. Having “crossed a red line,” the Israeli government decided to launch a retaliatory attack.
He is the highest-ranking Hezbollah commander to be killed in nearly ten months of gunfights between Israeli forces and Hezbollah that have been ongoing in parallel with the war in Gaza.
