Italian airline ITA Airways has temporarily suspended all its flights to Israel due to the situation of tension and conflict in the region, it said in a statement published on its website today.
“In light of geopolitical developments in the Middle East and to ensure the safety of its passengers and crew, ITA Airways has decided to suspend flights to and from Tel Aviv,” the company said in a brief statement.
The suspension of travel to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s main international airport, began on Thursday and will remain in effect until at least next Tuesday, given the uncertain situation caused by the conflicts in the region, according to the report.
“The situation is constantly changing,” added the airline, which urges its customers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
Fears of a major escalation in the Middle East region have been heightened by Israel’s recent attack on Beirut, Lebanon, which killed the top commander of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Fouad Shukr, and the assassination of the leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, last Wednesday in Iran, attributed to Israel.
Recall that on Wednesday, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines announced the suspension of flights to Tel Aviv. Yesterday, Thursday, Lufthansa announced that due to tensions in the Middle East, it will not fly to Tel Aviv and Beirut.
