This Friday, the Angolan Ministry of Finance guaranteed that the salaries of public servants for July have already been settled, explaining the delay by the gap between resources and the state’s main obligations.
“The processing of the calculation of civil servants’ salaries for July is regulated, its execution is 100%,” the National Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance reported.
The delays, according to National Treasury Director Marlon Lima, were caused by “the lag between the inflow of resources and the state’s main obligations, such as servicing the domestic debt, which on the last day of the month alone amounted to 300 thousand million kwanzas [312,6 milhões de euros]”.
On Thursday, the UNITA parliamentary group (the Angolan opposition) questioned the delay in salary payments “without explanation or justification”, considering the situation “unacceptable” and having “serious consequences” for families.
The Ministry also stressed the importance of remuneration of civil servants and their families and reiterated its commitment to reducing the gap between revenue and expenditure flows to ensure normalisation of payroll processing.
