The British Queen Consort Camilla has decided that she will not wear a diamond taken from the Indian Queen in her crown, the British royal family reports, citing the British press. Camilla chose this option to get away from her colonial past with crystals.
The Koh-i-Noor diamond has been in the possession of the British royal family since 1849, when it was taken over by the East India Company, the British company responsible for the trade in this area.
Since the 18th century, this crown, which belonged to Queen Mary in 1911, has not been used by British royalty. “For the first time in a long time, the crown was reused. This demonstrates an interest in efficiency and sustainability,” says the royal family.
The crown contains four diamonds that belonged to the collection of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coronation of the Queen Consort and King Charles III will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in the United Kingdom.
