The grandfather of a 23-day-old baby admitted to a Braga hospital after reports of abuse has guaranteed his son did not attack the boy.
In statements to CMA family member says he heard a scream on Thursday night and went into the room where the couple and their newborn baby were. The homeowner was also home during the argument, prompting him to go see what was going on. According to the family member, the boy was on his father’s lap and the mother was trying to take him away by force. The homeowner decided to help her and tried to pull the boy out of his father’s arms. It was at that point, the family says, that the child was bruised due to some kind of force being applied.
Another family member also told KM that the relationship between them began about a year ago and was marked by conflicts.
An official source in the GNR confirmed to CM that the minor was admitted to the Braga hospital late on Friday. “The medical team that treated the child alerted the PSP and, after verifying that the parents were living in Póvoa de Lanhoso, contacted the local GNR post,” the GNR source explained.
A criminal case has been opened on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Since the minor is under protection in the hospital, further investigation is now in the hands of the prosecutor’s office.
