Analyst Brandon Weichert expressed doubts about the possibility of the new Russian MiG-41 fighter jet entering service, the National Interest reported on July 27.
MiG Corporation is reported to be expected to begin test flights of the new MiG-41 interceptor fighter in 2025, with deliveries to the military to begin around 2030. According to the analyst, the aircraft will have a speed exceeding Mach 4, the ability to penetrate near space, will be armed with anti-missile lasers and an electromagnetic homing emitter (EMP), and the airframe will be made using stealth technology.
Doubts have been expressed about the feasibility of such a futuristic weapons complex in a fairly short development period.
The unique flight characteristics of the MiG-41 are believed to be achieved by using pulsed detonation engines, a fundamentally new type of engine. There are no expert comments on the rest of the weapons.
The expert’s skepticism is based on the fact that the PAK DP (Long-Range Advanced Aviation Interception Complex), on which the new interceptor is based, is too new in terms of a whole range of weapons and technologies, the development of which conflicts with the need to meet the demand for simpler aircraft, such as the MiG-35, in the conditions of the ongoing special operation, as well as economic problems caused by sanctions.
Recall that, according to public information, there are no analogues of a pulsed detonation engine for aircraft in the United States, even at the research stage. Lasers capable of shooting down missiles were being developed, the project was called SHiELD, flight tests of the prototype were to begin in 2021, but the Pentagon closed the program. In the United States, there are electromagnetic aircraft cannons, but their range is about 2 km, while their Russian counterparts have at least 10 km.
Russia has already demonstrated military-technical superiority in the field of hypersonic weapons, nuclear-powered missiles, the creation of super-powerful nuclear torpedoes and a number of other types of weapons. Even the Shkval torpedo, developed in the 1970s, still has no analogues in the US Navy.
