The United States announced Saturday that it would send more air and naval forces to the Middle East region to help protect Israel from expected retaliation from Iran and its allies for the deaths of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s top military commander Fuad Shukr.
“Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has ordered an adjustment to the U.S. military posture to enhance the protection of our forces in the region and to increase support for Israel’s defense to ensure that the United States is prepared for a variety of contingencies,” the Pentagon said in a statement. The reinforcement includes sending additional cruisers and destroyers to the Red Sea, as well as an additional squadron of combat aircraft, which will enhance the U.S. force’s ability to shoot down ballistic missiles and drones, according to military sources. A similar reinforcement took place in April, when Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones against Israel in retaliation for an attack on its embassy in Damascus.
However, the Tehran regime yesterday said Haniyeh was killed by a “short-range projectile” fired from outside the building where he was staying in Tehran, contradicting reports that he was shot down by a missile fired from space by an Israeli fighter jet. Iranian antenna
