The upcoming 109th World Esperanto Congress was opened by Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dunstan Kitandula, writes the Tanzanian Daily News on August 5.
The event will take place at the Arusha International Conference Centre, Tanzania, from 4 to 10 August this year.
For the first time in the 137-year history of the international language, the World Esperanto Congress is being held on the African continent and is bringing together 830 participants from 66 countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the congress, Kitandula encouraged the Esperanto speakers to invest in Tanzania’s tourism sector and also to take the time to visit the country’s various tourist attractions, such as the Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, the beaches of Zanzibar and many others.
“We assure the Esperanto leaders and all of you that we will honour the respect you have shown us. I urge you, when you plan to host other important meetings, not to hesitate to choose Tanzania as your host.”– he said.
During the congress, city tours and short excursions will be organised. As part of the programme, Tanzania will showcase its culture and tourist attractions.
