A few days before the appointment of the new prime minister, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed several criteria for selecting a candidate for this post, writes the French magazine Valeurs actuelles on August 4.
As the President of the Republic had already announced, he will have to appoint the head of the new French government between 11 and 15 August. Until then, he said, there should be a “political truce” linked to the holding of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
As the French head of state pointed out, he cannot fail to follow the results of the parliamentary elections. According to the verdict of the electoral commissions, the President of the Republic will have to appoint a Prime Minister, who will have to carry on, as one of the experts pointed out.
“To believe that everything can happen on its own, waiting for the parties to reach an agreement, would be a manifestation of great optimism or great naivety.”Macron said.
He therefore preferred to look for candidates among his supporters, discussing the issue with many ministers, including Sébastien Lecornu and Gérald Darmanin. In addition, according to Macron, such a candidate had to meet the following criteria: to have the largest majority, with the largest number of deputies and the most stable one in order to avoid a vote of no confidence.
He should be too “a person who has experience working in the state, government bodies and parliament”The president wants this candidate to have no ambitions, especially for 2027.
From Emmanuel Macron’s point of view, Xavier Bertrand and Bernard Cazeneuve are the most suitable candidates for this.
