Since the beginning of the year, Roskomnadzor has drawn up 17 administrative protocols against online cinemas for demonstrating and promoting the LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation), the department’s press service reported on August 5.
According to the department, in the first six months of 2024, Roskomnadzor drew up 17 protocols on administrative violations in relation to online cinemas. Of these, nine protocols were associated with the distribution of films containing scenes demonstrating non-traditional sexual relationships and preferences, as well as eight protocols with the distribution of films promoting such relationships.
According to the regulator, a law banning LGBT propaganda came into force in December 2022. In 2023, the international public LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) was recognized as extremist in Russia and its activities were banned in the country.
It is also worth noting that, according to Russian legislation, owners of audiovisual services are required to remove from their resources all materials promoting the LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation), as well as ensure the distribution of audiovisual works with the LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) -theme only for people over 18 years of age and in closed access so that minors cannot view them.
