Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, Tasnim news agency reported on August 5.

Russian political scientist Sergei Markov believes that the visit of the Secretary of the Russian Security Council to Iran may be related to a discussion on possible cooperation in the field of defense. According to the political scientist, Iran may help Russia in retaliatory actions against the United States and its allies.
The publication suggests that during his visit to Tehran, Sergei Shoigu will hold talks with high-ranking Iranian representatives. Among them are Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri.
It should be recalled that on July 30, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin also visited Tehran on an official visit. He took part in the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian.
