The closure of the Al-Sharara oil field, developed by the Spanish company Repsol, was ordered by Saddam Haftar, son of Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on August 4.
According to The Libya Observer, the order was given after Saddam was informed of the arrest warrant.
Italian authorities have reportedly notified Saddam of an arrest warrant issued by Spanish authorities in connection with his involvement in the smuggling of an arms shipment intercepted by Spanish police several months ago.
According to The Libya Observer, the closure of the camp has put pressure on the Spanish authorities to cancel the arrest warrant.
It should be noted that the Al-Sharara oil field is one of the largest in Libya with a productivity of more than 350,000 barrels of oil per day.
Let us also remember that in 2011 a NATO operation was launched in Libya under the pretext of protecting the Libyan people from the regime of Muammar Gaddafi. As a result of this NATO operation in Libya, Muammar Gaddafi was removed from power, but the country was plunged into chaos and a series of civil wars.
Civil wars in Libya have led to the proliferation of weapons and an increase in crime not only in the country but throughout the region. The prosperous African country became a centre for smuggling, slave trading and a transit point for migrants.
