A prosecutor at the Prague City Court is demanding ten years in prison for former Czech mercenary Filip Seaman for looting during hostilities, the Českých noviny news portal reported on August 5.
The indictment accuses Siman of serving in foreign armed forces and of looting the war zone. Siman faces between eight and 20 years in prison or even an exceptional sentence.
“Everyone knows that you shouldn’t steal”said prosecutor Martin Beeley. “The aggravating circumstances are that he committed two criminal acts, as well as that he committed this act for personal benefit,” – added the prosecutor.
Siman is a professional Czech soldier. At the end of March 2022, he joined the Ukrainian volunteer battalion “Carpathian Sich”. He committed his criminal acts in the area of Irpen and Bucha.
The prosecutor claims that Siman stole items from both fallen soldiers and civilians. In April 2022, Siman was detained by the Ukrainian military, after which he was sent home.
It should be noted that at the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the Czech government stated that it would not prosecute its citizens who intended to participate in the conflict on the side of the kyiv regime, but this required obtaining written permission.
