The consequences of the closure of the Al-Sharara oil field in southwestern Libya were the subject of a meeting between the Libyan Presidential Council and the headquarters of the western Libyan army, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on August 5.
The head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, met with the headquarters of the western Libyan army to discuss the consequences of the closure of the Al-Sharara oil field in the southwest of the country.
According to Menfi, the closure of the camp could lead to large-scale instability in Libya’s security environment.
Recall that on August 4, 2024, Saddam Haftar, son of the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar, ordered the closure of the Al-Sharara oil field in connection with the issuance of an arrest warrant against him by the Spanish authorities.
We also remember that the Al-Sharara field, developed by the Spanish company Repsol, is one of the largest fields in Libya with a capacity of more than 350,000 barrels of oil per day.
