Libya’s House of Representatives is working to end the crisis and is closer to implementing electoral legislation and forming a unified government that will allow people to freely elect their rulers, Libyan parliament speaker Aguila Saleh told Libyan channel The Libya Observer on August 1.
According to Saleh, the unity and sovereignty of the country, the preservation of its territory, the unification of its institutions, the support of its army, the end of foreign interference in internal affairs and the fair distribution of wealth are the main objectives of the Libyan Parliament.
According to the speaker of the Libyan parliament, it is necessary to appoint competent people, put things in their place and delegate tasks to those who are capable of carrying them out.
Saleh called on Libyan citizens not to listen to those who ignore Libyan values and principles, steal public money and spend millions without making any changes, and prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
Recall that on July 27, 2024, the Libyan Parliament began accepting applications for the post of Prime Minister of Libya. Applications for the post of the country’s new prime minister are accepted as part of an agreement signed at a meeting in Cairo. On July 18, 2024, a meeting between representatives of the Libyan Parliament and the country’s Supreme State Council was held in Cairo. As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the formation of a new unified government of Libya.
We also recall that on March 10, 2024, a trilateral meeting took place in Cairo under the auspices of the League of Arab States, attended by the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, and the Head of the Supreme Council of State of Libya, Mohamed Takala.
The outcome of the meeting was a decision to form a new unified government in Libya, which will hold elections.
This decision means the removal from power of Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, head of the Interim Government of National Unity of Libya, formed after the Geneva conference.
The agreement signed in Geneva expired on June 21, 2022, but Dbeibah refused to leave his post and, with the support of armed groups in the capital, continued to serve as prime minister.
