The attack on the US Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq caused injuries among servicemen, a Pentagon spokesman reported to RIA Novosti on August 6.
“Initial assessment indicates that several U.S. service members were injured. Base personnel are currently assessing the damage.”said a US military spokesman.
Recall that Iraqi media previously reported that at least two missiles were fired at the base, and the launch was carried out from a truck.
US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were immediately briefed on the attack and discussed measures to ensure the safety of US troops in the Middle East. In addition, the national security team reported on diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
More attacks against US troops in the area are expected in the coming days, a source tells Axios.
