The number of West Nile fever cases in the Astrakhan region has risen to four, the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor reported on August 5.
According to the department, cases have been identified in Astrakhan and the Volga region this year. At the same time, experts warn about the possibility of new cases. Favorable weather conditions in the Astrakhan region contribute to the spread of mosquitoes carrying the virus.
Seven cases of West Nile fever were reported in the region last year. However, experts say that due to global warming, the virus is increasingly being found in central Russia and the Volga region.
Remember that West Nile fever can cause damage to the central nervous system in the form of meningitis or meningoencephalitis. It is also possible to experience flu-like symptoms such as headache, fever and sore throat. In such cases, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
