News to be made: Middle East, round of contacts in Catalonia and market situation

Summary of the main news stories to be published by eitb.eus today.

These are the topics that will occupy the main headlines as of this Tuesday, August 6, 2024:

– Middle East: The situation in the region is on high alert, in view of an imminent attack by Iran and its allies against Israel, following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian territory. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened to avenge the death and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard warned that Israel “is digging its own grave.”

– Contact round in Catalonia: The President of the Catalan Parliament, Josep Rull, will begin this Tuesday the round of contacts prior to formalizing the call for the investiture session of Salvador Illa, once the ERC membership, as well as its youth, have endorsed voting in favor of the socialist candidate.

Market situation: After a “black Monday” due to fears of a recession in the United States, the main Asian stock markets – the only ones open early in the morning – have recovered, with the Japanese Nikkei up more than 9% at the mid-session break; yesterday it fell by 12.40%. The American Wall Street closed in the red for its worst day in two years and the European stock markets lost around 2%.
