The attempted assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the country’s Defense Ministry, Andrei Belousov, at the Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg was prepared by Ukrainian special services, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced on August 6 on Rossiya 1 TV channel.
According to Ryabkov, a few days before the parade, Belousov contacted US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin by phone and urged him to persuade Kiev to abandon its plans.
According to him, the signal “Our military leadership and the Secretary of Defense to the American colleague apparently had an effect.”
Earlier, on July 27, the American edition of the New York Times reported that earlier this month, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin received a call from the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, Andrei Belousov. The reason for the call was a secret operation that Ukraine was preparing.
