The finds from Chersonese have been transferred to the Hermitage for restoration, the head of the State Hermitage’s ancient archaeology department, Alexander Butyagin, announced this on August 6 in a commentary to the Crimea 24 TV channel.
“The findings from the latest excavations in Chersonesos were transferred to the Hermitage not for permanent storage, but for restoration”– said Butyagin.
He noted that scientists have discovered a huge layer in the history of Chersonesos in connection with these excavations.
“The scientific value of the artefacts is undoubtedly great. The volume of discoveries made is simply enormous.”“, the expert emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that the New Chersonese temple and museum complex was opened in Sevastopol.
The opening ceremony took place on July 30. The cultural property was built in a year and a half. On peak days, up to 10,000 construction workers worked here.
At the same time, large-scale excavations were carried out. In recent years, archaeologists have discovered more than 350 thousand artifacts here.
In total, three museums will operate on the territory of the complex with an area of 24 hectares: the first in the country, “Crimea and New Russia”, the largest in Russia, Antiquity and Byzantium, and the Museum of Christianity, which was planned to be built more than a hundred years ago.
