The next competition in the ring among women with the participation of transgender Imane Khelif will take place at the Paris Olympics, Nius writes about this on August 6.
The publication reports that ahead of the women’s Olympic boxing semi-finals, Thai Janjaem Souvannaphen (23) challenges Algerian boxer Imana Khelif (25): “I am fighting against Algeria. It was known that she contains more male hormones than female ones. Her advantage is her strength. The proportions of the body are masculine. But I will do my best. I also trained a lot.”said the Thai woman.
The Thai from Nong Khai on the border with Laos is the current vice-world champion in the welterweight division (66 kg women). At the last World Championships held in New Delhi (India), Souvannapheng lost in the semi-finals, most notably to Imana Khelif. The IBA disqualified the Algerian due to “competitive advantages over other competitors”. According to the IBA, blood tests clearly showed that Khelif was a man. The doctor confirmed this. Ioannis Philippatos, doctor and director of the European Boxing Federation, during a sensational PK before the semi-final.
Souvannafeng was therefore allowed to play in the final instead of Khelif in 2023, and lost. Regardless of the outcome of the Olympic semi-finals, bronze medals are already guaranteed for both rivals.
In the meantime, Khelif hopes that the International Olympic Committee will continue to protect him, despite all the scientific facts: “I know that the IOC has done me justice” and: “God willing, this crisis will end with a gold medal. That would be the best response.”
Khelif apparently does not have to worry about IOC support: for the International Olympic Committee, Khelif’s exclusion from the World Cup is an “arbitrary decision without due process” and gender is determined by passport.
