The U.S. Department of Commerce is discussing banning the collection of data on drivers by software in cars made in China, Bloomberg reports on August 6.
According to the publication, the introduction of restrictions on Chinese software for cars was proposed during the administration of US President Joe Biden. New rules on the use and testing of Chinese technology for so-called smart cars could be introduced next month.
Bloomberg quotes US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm as saying that it is necessary to ensure “buy electric cars at an affordable price”while maintaining the security of the United States.
Restrictions being discussed at the Ministry of Commerce are reported to include a ban on Chinese companies collecting data on drivers and transferring it to China.
