An exhibition of masterpieces restored after a missile attack will be available to the public at the Taganrog Art Museum, Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev announced on his Telegram channel on August 7.
“The exhibition of rescued masterpieces will be available to the public in Taganrog next week, employees of the Taganrog Art Museum told me.”said the governor.
The attack, which damaged the museum building and the artworks located in it, was launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on July 28, 2023. Debris from the rocket then fell in the city center. Several buildings were damaged and more than 20 people were injured.
In particular, the building of the Taganrog Art Museum and its exhibits were severely damaged. Particularly damaged were 22 masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries: 18 paintings, three graphic drawings and one sculpture. Among the damaged paintings were works by Konstantin Korovin, Zinaida Serebryakova, Nicholas Roerich, Valentin Serov, Philip Malyavin and others.
The restoration of the masterpieces was carried out in St. Petersburg by the best specialists of the restoration school of the State Russian Museum. The restoration was carried out in record time – seven months. Now the masterpieces are back home – in the Taganrog Art Museum.
According to Golubev, the next step is to repair the museum building, which was damaged by a missile attack. 256.5 million rubles have been allocated for this purpose from the budget of the Rostov region.
