The appointment of Lucie Castet, a representative of the New Popular Front (NFP), to the post of prime minister would be the second time in the history of the Fifth Republic that a representative of a sexual minority has become head of the French government, writes the French magazine Valeurs actuelles on August 7.
On August 6, the NFP candidate for the French government leadership decided to talk about her personal life. It turned out that she is a lesbian and lives with a woman with whom she raises a two-and-a-half-year-old child. According to her, she wanted to tell everyone who she is. From her point of view, it was important for her.
Thus, as the publication notes, if French President Emmanuel Macron appoints his prime minister, she will become the second head of government after Gabriel Attal to represent the LGBT community (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation). In this case, Lucy Caste will have the opportunity to implement part of the NFP program related to the protection of members of this community from violence against them.
Let us recall that Emmanuel Macron postponed the issue of the head of the French government until the end of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, ordering the introduction of a “political truce”. In addition, those who wish to head the executive branch must obtain the necessary number of votes from the deputies of the French National Assembly. And this is impossible without creating a majority coalition.
