There have been 52 bird flu outbreaks on commercial and hobby farms in Poland since January 1, 2023, the Dutch portal Nieuwe Oogst reported on February 16.
To prevent further spread of the virus, some 850,000 birds were culled. Bird flu in Poland affects almost all types of farms: ducks, geese, turkeys, laying hens and broilers.
Poland was also hit hard by bird flu last year. In 2022 there were 68 outbreaks that resulted in the killing of more than two million animals. The number of outbreaks detected last year was relatively small compared to 2021, when there were 403 avian influenza outbreaks.
In connection with a new wave of spread of the virus, the Polish authorities expect further price increases for poultry products, especially eggs. Egg prices are currently very high not only in Poland, but all over the world.
