This Thursday, Portugal’s Angelica Andre achieved the best result ever for Portugal in an Olympic open water event, finishing the 10 kilometers at Paris 2024 in 12th place, just 1 second behind the top 10, and with an Olympic diploma 6 seconds behind.
The Portuguese completed the race in 2:06:17 hours, finishing 2:42 behind the podium group, which was headed by Dutchwoman Sharon van Rouwendaal, ahead of Australian Moesha Johnson (5.5 seconds) and Italian Ginevra Taddeucci (8.6 seconds). Brazilian Ana Marcela Cunha, the Tokyo champion, took fourth place in 41.5.
Before Paris, the best Portuguese finish was 17th place at Tokyo 2020, notably by Angelique Andre herself, and Daniela Inacio at Beijing 2008.
