Japan pledges $27 million in aid to Turkey and Syria

Japan pledges $27 million in aid to Turkey and Syria

The Japanese government has pledged around $27 million for emergency humanitarian assistance to Turkey and Syria, the NHK television channel reported on February 16.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters that the aid will be delivered to both countries through the World Food Program and Japanese non-governmental organizations. According to him, the officials are now working out the details.

Japan is doing its best to send rescue teams and emergency supplies to the region, based on its own experience in dealing with the aftermath of earthquakes and other natural disasters, the minister said. He promised to act quickly, noting that Tokyo would continue to provide assistance.

Remember, according to Turkey’s Department of Emergency Management, more than 36,000 people have died as a result of the recent earthquakes in the country. Over 108,000 more were affected. According to the WHO, in Syria, a natural disaster claimed the lives of 8,500 people.
